Leading Formula Ford entrant Tom Williamson has switched teams for the remaining rounds of the Australian Formula Ford Championship.
Williamson, winner of the opening round at the Clipsal 500 street track, has switched to the Bruin Beasley-owned team Minda Motorsport, the team that runs the CAMS Rising Star program.
Williamson will make his debut with Minda at next weekend’s round of the championship at Eastern Creek, supporting the Shannons Nationals.
The team change means that Williamson will now drive a Mygale, rather than the Spectrum he has competed with in the opening two rounds.
Team owner Beasley says that he is pleased to have the combination of Williamson and his two CAMS Rising Star cars of Trent Harrison and Jack Le Brocq.
“I think it will be very good to have an experienced guy in our team,” Beasley said.
“It will give Tom two competitive guys to race against, and it will give Trent and Jack a good benchmark to work with. I think it’s a great change for our team.”
In other Formula Ford news, Jon Collins will make his national championship debut. Having competed in the New South Wales state series as an AMSF Rookie, Collins will get his first drive in the championship proper in his Minda-prepared entry.
Twenty cars in total will take to the Eastern Creek circuit. It will be the first time that the national Formula Ford championship has run in conjunction with the Shannons Nationals.
Sonic Motor Racing driver Cameron Waters, one of the contestants in the Shannons Supercar Showdown, currently leads the prestigious Formula Ford championship.
