Jack Miller is targeting a top 10 result as he aims to make an impact on his return from injury at this weekend’s Michelin Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
The rising Australian star is expected to jump back aboard his Marc VDS Honda after sitting out the Japanese Grand Prix with a broken leg sustained in a training incident.
Miller has been working on his fitness since suffering a fracture to his right tibia and is confident the injury won’t prevent him from riding in his home race at Phillip Island.
The 22-year-old is not only hoping to race but is setting his sights on cracking the top 10 for the seventh time this season.
“Last year we were fighting for seventh position and I think we can go even better than that,” Miller told Speedcafe.com.
“Phillip Island is a mix of everything. It is a really flowing track and it suits our bike and there is not too many first gear accelerations and big straights.
“As we have seen the last few years we have been at Phillip Island there is always a little bit of question mark regarding tyres.
“It will be interesting and anything is possible.
“We will put our head down go to work and see what we can come away with.
“I’m always trying to push for a strong result. I want keep working for our championship I would like to solidify that position and finish the year out strong.”
While eager to produce a strong result in front of his home crowd, Miller says he wishes to sign-off his two-year tenure at Marc VDS Racing on a high as the season reaches its climax.
The Queenslander will link up with Pramac Ducati next year.
“(Next year) is in my mind already but I have three more races with Honda to get through,” he added.
“I have got a really good relationship with the Marc VDS Racing team and the management staff there so it is sad but as we have seen in this paddock things go in roundabouts so you never know where we could end up in the future.”
The MotoGP Michelin Australian Grand Prix will begin on Friday with opening practice scheduled for 1055 local time.
