SUPPORTS: Bowe stars in TCM finale

John Bowe extended his TCM points lead

John Bowe extended his TCM points lead

John Bowe once again showed his class as he powered through from the rear of the grid to win the final Touring Car Masters race of the weekend at Queensland Raceway.

The 1995 Australian touring car champion started from 21st virtue of the reverse grid rules but it failed to halt his charge.

Bowe had surged into the top five at the end of the fourth lap while Glenn Seton took the lead from pole-sitter Leo Tobin, having started from 20th on the grid.

Seton opened up a three second advantage in is Ford Mustang before Bowe managed to pass Tobin and Adam Garwood to move into second spot.

With his sights fixed on Seton, Bowe was able to close the gap before initiating a thrilling scrap for the lead.

Bowe’s pressure and pace eventually took its toll as the Holden Torana slipped by Seton with two laps remaining.

Once ahead Bowe went on to take the chequered flag by 0.6s from Seton, while Jason Gomersall claimed third from a 19th place grid slot.

Garwood came through to finish fourth ahead of Keith Kassulke, who produced a solid drive to come home in fifth as Eddie Albenica rounded out the top six.

Although Bowe took his second win of the weekend, Seton claimed the round victory after recording a win and two second place finishes from the three heats.

Bowe now leads the series by 59 points over Abelnica with Seton a further five points adrift in third.

The Touring Car Masters heads to Phillip Island for the sixth round from September 9-11.

Harry Hayek took the round win after claiming his second Australian Formula 4 Championship race victory of the weekend.

The Team BRM driver once again made no mistakes from pole position as he charged to a comfortable lights-to-flag triumph.

Championship leader Will Brown jumped Nick Rowe at the start to claim second spot which he held for the remainder of the race.

Brown initially came under pressure from Rowe but as the race progressed the latter was forced to defend from Jordan Love.

In the end, Rowe held on to third with Love narrowly denied a place on the podium.

Kel Treseder was the class of the field again as he took a third race win in the Aussie Racing Cars’ fourth and final heat.

The KKP Motorsport driver had to work just that little bit harder, however, as James Duckworth jumped best and Trent Young swept into second while Treseder spun his wheels.

Treseder survived a clash with Young as the field entered the main straight for the first time, moving into second despite nearly being turned into the wall.

Treseder passed Duckworth on Lap 3 and never looked back despite the best efforts of Craig Woods, who would tail the leader by a few tenths for the majority of the race.

“I couldn’t have had a better weekend,” said Treseder.

“Pole position, two race wins, and a win in the final again was awesome.”

James Duckworth completed the podium and continues to lead the series, while Brendon Pingel’s machine was patched up after his monumental rollover the afternoon prior and he finished ninth.

Round 5 takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park on August 26-28.

Kumho V8 Touring Cars

Douglas extended his streak to nine consecutive wins

Douglas extended his streak to nine consecutive wins

Taz Douglas scored a record-equalling ninth straight race win to remain unbeaten across the opening three rounds of the Kumho V8 Touring Cars Series.

The former Supercars Championship full-timer lead for all but four corners all weekend thanks to another pair of thoroughly dominant race wins.

Douglas now shares the consecutive race win record which Ryan Simpson has set twice over.

Tyler Greenbury drove from the back of the field to finish a distant second in Race 3, having retired with clutch problems earlier in the day.

Fellow title aspirant Josh Smith was sixth in Race 2 after dropping back with wheel-spin at the start in his Brad Jones Racing Commodore and then touring the Turn 1 gravel trap mid-race.

He experienced another off during Race 3 in attempting a move on Chris Smerdon, greeting the chequered flag fifth in that encounter.

Smerdon, the only man to lead Douglas at any stage, was runner-up for the round with third and fourth placings (respectively) to add to his second position in Race 1.

Round 4 will support the Shannons Nationals at Sandown, from September 9 to 11.
