Shane van Gisbergen's rookie Spa 24 Hours campaign ended with a heavy accident for co-driver Tim Mullen in just the second hour of the race.
The #101 Von Ryan Racing entered McLaren was destroyed against the barriers on the approach to Blanchimont in an incident that occurred immediately following a Safety Car period.
Mullen was concious following the accident and taken to hospital for further checks.
“Unfortunately we are out, really big crash,” wrote Van Gisbergen on his Facebook page.
“Driver is in hospital but ok which is the main thing good news.”
Van Gisbergen had been due to share the car with Mullen and factory McLaren driver Rob Bell.
A crash-marred opening to the Spa classic has also taken out the #111 Kessel Racing Ferrari co-driven by Australian Liam Talbot.
The Gentlemen Trophy entry was crashed heavily by Brit Marcus Mahy just prior to the six hour mark.
Mahy, who collided with the Vadim Kogay-driven #333 Rinaldi Ferrari at Stavelot, was taken to hospital by air ambulance following the incident, which brought out a lengthy red flag period.
