Brad Jones Racing team-mates Fabian Coulthard and Jason Bright will square-off from the front-row of the grid in Race 3 at Albert Park after a grid penalty to Craig Lowndes.
The Red Bull driver finished second in Friday afternoon’s Race 2, but only after a tight release from his compulsory pitstop saw minor contact with Bright’s BOC Holden.
Race stewards have confirmed this morning that Lowndes has been handed a one-place grid penalty for the infraction.
Lowndes keeps his finishing position and points for his second place, however.
The three-time champion explained yesterday that the slippery pitlane contributed to the incident with Bright.
“When we were released I was told to go, go, go, so I went,” he said.
“The pit apron is obviously a concrete base and I got too much wheelspin, so there was overlap.”
“We’ll cop it on the chin,” he added of the potential for a penalty.
Lowndes’ team-mate Jamie Whincup also found himself in trouble with the stewards in Race 2 yesterday, receiving an in-race drive-through penalty for spinning his wheels while his pitstop was being undertaken.
Race 3 of 4 for the V8 Supercars at Albert Park will get underway at 1520 local time.
