Dick Johnson Racing is running late, but will front at Sydney Motorsport Park with one car tomorrow.
The embattled V8 Supercars team has built its first Car of the Future Ford Falcon FG, completing the construction today.
The car, which features technical components from Ford Performance Racing, has been loaded into the DJR transporter and is currently en route to the Eastern Creek circuit.
New team signing Tim Blanchard will be the only driver in the car tomorrow, with the car set to sport a one-off livery, raising awareness for the Queensland Flood Fund.
Due to time constraints, and that the team has been unable to find sufficient funds, only one car has been completed. A second driver has yet to be confirmed.
A DJR representative told Speedcafe.com that three drivers remain in the mix to secure the second seat, one of which includes long-time driver Steve Johnson.
The son of team owner Dick Johnson posted a short video on social media today, excited about the completion of the team’s first car.
The famous Queensland team has fallen on tough times in the past month, with a business partner withdrawing as well as numerous other sponsors.
The team will also announce a management restructure in the coming weeks after the resignation of chief operating officer Scott Jennings.
The team’s embattled times have seen fans and followers of Johnson’s team pledge money to see them remain in the game. Speedcafe.com understands that the public has already contributed a “four figure sum” just 24 hours after they released bank details for contributions.
Blanchard and the rest of the V8 Supercars teams will be at Sydney Motorsport Park tomorrow for the opening pre-season test.
