Glenn Seton will have another chance to get an elusive Bathurst victory this year, signing with Kelly Racing for the V8 Supercars endurance races at Phillip Island and Bathurst.

The 45-year-old will drive with either Rick Kelly, Todd Kelly or Jason Bargwanna in their Commodore VEs in the two long-distance races – the exact pairings will be confirmed later in the season.

Seton, a two-time Australian Touring Car/V8 Supercars champion, has never won the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, despite four podium finishes and a number of heartbreaking close calls – none more devastating than the 1995 ‘Great Race’ where the engine on his Peter Jackson-backed Falcon expired with nine laps to go while convincingly leading the race.

The Gold Coast resident missed out on a Bathurst start last year, but says that this is his best chance of victory on The Mountain in many years.

“Bathurst is a very special race and I’m still looking to conquer it,” he said.

“Whether I’m racing with Todd, Rick or Bargs, all three are former Bathurst winners and are certainly capable of winning again there this October.

“It’s a very exciting time for me and I’m as determined as ever to give Phillip Island and Bathurst a really good crack with Kelly Racing.

“The goal posts for the endurance races have moved for this year with the situation we are in with the rule change splitting the full-time drivers.

“It makes this my best chance to win the race for a long time.

“There is more opportunity for potential race winners. Instead of going up against three or four really strong combinations, there are now a dozen cars that could win and I certainly put myself in that group.”

Seton will drive laps in Jason Bargwanna’s #11 Rock Holden Commodore in the endurance driver practice sessions at Winton Motor Raceway today.
