Garth Tander will start Race 9 of the V8 Supercars Championship Series from pole position

Garth Tander has taken pole position for Race 9 of the V8 Supercars Championship Series at Queensland Raceway today.

Tander scorched around the Ipswich circuit in 1:09.8526, less than a tenth of a second ahead of provisional pole sitter James Courtney.

Tander’s great lap leaped him from provisional eighth to the top spot.

Shane van Gisbergen (SP Tools) will start from third on the grid ahead of fellow Ford drivers Mark Winterbottom (Orrcon FPR) and Steven Johnson (Jim Beam Racing).

Lee Holdsworth (Fujitsu Racing) qualified sixth ahead of Craig Lowndes (TeamVodafone), Jason Bright (Trading Post) and Dean Fiore (Sitech).

Fiore, carrying new support this weekend from Sitech on the bonnet of his Ford Falcon FG, was competing in his maiden top 10 shootout appearance.

The ninth race of the V8 Series is scheduled to start at 4.05pm.
