Nick Percat has tested his Jay Motorsport Holden Commodore VZ for the first time this year at Winton Motor Raceway.
The reigning Australian Formula Ford Champion completed his first test with the team since being announced as the South Australian-based team driver for the 2010 Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series.
Having enjoyed a test with the team late last year, Percat was happy to be back in the driver’s seat – behind the wheel of the Commodore which has undergone an off-season rebuild.
“It was great to be back in a race car, as it seems a long time since I won the Formula Ford championship in 2009 already,” he said.
“I ran through a full program of running on very used tyres, and the car performed faultlessly out of the box after its major rebuild in the off season. Full credit to Keith Rennie and the boys for doing such a good job.
“As has been the case for a while now, I have been really working on my fitness and it showed with my consistency and speed over a race distance. The feedback from the team was rather positive with my lap times right in the ballpark too.
“I’m looking forward to racing on my home town track in Adelaide, as I have been pretty fast in all the other categories I have been there in, so I will be doing my best to start the season well at the Clipsal 500.”
Percat will compete in car #222 this year, showing his factory links with the Walkinshaw Racing and the Toll Holden Racing Team.
The South Australian is still chasing sponsors for the 2010 season to ensure he completes his maiden Fujitsu V8 season.
