The Richards father and son, Steve and Clay, will be in New Zealand next week to take part in the Highlands Six Hour endurance race and are among several Australian-based people taking part.

Clay will race alongside Matt O’Donnell and Blake Knowles in a TCR specification Audi R3 LMS with his father overseeing from the pits and calling the shots on strategy.

While Clay has competed in two rounds of the New Zealand Toyota 86 Championship, it will be his first time at Highlands Motorsport Park.

The Audi he will race is similar to the car he raced in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series at Winton Motor Raceway earlier this year. The race will cater for around 20 GT3, GT4 and Open Class cars, and a ‘Le Mans’ type start preceded by a Top Ten Shootout.

Richards Senior says it’s going to be tough but the whole team is looking forward to the weekend.

“It should be a good weekend where everyone behind the wheel has some degree of experience in the car or at least the type of car,” he explained.

“There’s lots new about the experience for me though, and I’m really looking forward to helping the team do the best they can.”

Walkinshaw Andretti United Dunlop Super 2 driver Ryan Wood will be in a Porsche 992 Cup car with Scott O’Donnell and Alan Dippie. Supercar racer Luke Youlden who returned to racing at Gold Coast 500 aboard a Porsche Carrera Cup car, will be sharing a Mercedes AMG GT3 with Paul Lucchitti.

Also in Mercedes AMGs will be Justin McMillan, Glen Wood and Garth Walden, as will Marcel Zalloua and Sergio Pries, and Porsche Sprint Challenge driver Marco Giltrap, with Paul and Anthony Pedersen. Tim Miles will join with Brendon Leitch and Christina Orr-West in a Lamborghini Huracan. Circuit owner Tony Quinn will share his Porsche with grandson Ryder and Courtney Prince.

The Highlands 6 Hour Enduro is the feature event at the 10th Anniversary of Highlands Motorsport Park on November 3-5 that will also have Central Muscle Cars, Aussie Race Cars, and a One Hour Endurance race.
