Ford Supercars aero changes approved
Tuesday 24th October, 2023 - 12:01pm
Supercars has formally approved the proposed aero changes to the Ford Mustang ahead of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
As forecast by Speedcafe yesterday, Ford and its teams were expecting imminent approval of the changes by Supercars and its technical department.
That has now been granted with the Ford teams clear to run the updated package at Surfers Paradise this weekend.
Speedcafe understands that most Ford teams have already fitted the new parts in anticipation of the approval.

The changes include an insert in the front fog lamp dimple, changes to the front wheel arch, a new, wider rear wing element and the re-positioning of the rear wing to where it was before the pre-Townsville changes.
“After a comprehensive evaluation conducted by Supercars, and in consultation with the homologation teams, it has been determined that adjustments will be implemented to the Ford Mustang Vehicle Specification Document in preparation for the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 event,” read a statement from Supercars.
“These modifications include alterations to the rear wing, side skirt, and front fascia elements, with the primary aim of reducing drag, and redistributing downforce to the rear of the Mustang.”
How long this particular aero package remains current will depend on off-season wind tunnel testing.
It will mark the first time Supercars has used full scale wind tunnel testing to find parity between competing models.
Other measures such as transient dyno testing will also be used to improve parity in 2024 after a season dominated by talk of disparity.
Track action on the Gold Coast kicks off on Friday.
