T8 carrying Chevrolet branding at Sandown

Triple Eight Race Engineering’s two cars are carrying Chevrolet Silverado branding at this weekend’s Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint.
Triple Eight has already confirmed that it will replace its ZB Commodores with Chevrolet Camaros when the Gen3 ruleset takes effect in next year’s Repco Supercars Championship.
Now, the bowtie logo and ‘Silverado’ is being displayed on the inside of the rear wing endplates on Cars #88 and #97.
A tweet from the team showing off that branding reads, “A touch of the future is riding with us at Sandown this weekend [Smirking face] #GMSV #RedBullAmpol”.
‘GMSV’ is a reference to General Motors Specialty Vehicles, the business which sells the American automotive giant’s wares in Australia and New Zealand in a tie-up with the Walkinshaw Automotive Group.
Despite the close bonds which therefore exist between Walkinshaw Andretti United and head office in Detroit, Triple Eight remains the homologation team for the General Motors marque for Gen3, as it was for the ZB Commodore.
It had also been the official factory Holden team, an arrangement which was cut short with a year to run on the last contract after the decision to shut down the iconic business by the end of 2020.
It was therefore a ‘Red Bull Ampol Racing’ entry, as Triple Eight is nowadays commercially known in Supercars, which Jamie Whincup put third on the starting grid for this afternoon’s third race of the season.
Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen was only 17th-fastest in qualifying in the sister car, although he refused to attribute that performance to his recently broken collarbone.
Race start is due at 16:45 local time/AEDT, with 36 laps on the cards.
