Gutierrez to campaign ex-Team 18 SuperUte

The Gutierrez V8 SuperUte

George Gutierrez has confirmed his place on the 2021 V8 SuperUtes grid, purchasing the vehicle previously run by Team 18.

The Holden Colorado was last in action as part of the 2019 Bathurst 1000, with Nathan Pretty behind the wheel.

For Gutierrez, it marks a return to the category – which will take on a new look this year – having previously raced a V8 Ute at the 2016 edition of the Adelaide 500.

More recently, the Adelaide-based driver contested what is now known as the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series, finishing seventh in the 2019 standings.

“After what was essentially a year off due to COVID, it gave us the opportunity to assess different options for what could be the next step, and the renewed V8 SuperUtes category was the perfect fit for us,” said Gutierrez.

“This new formula has the right pieces to bring the class back to its glory days again, and most importantly bring the fans to the fence.

“This year is going to be a steep learning curve, a new car to learn for myself and my team.

“Having to do the engine transition in-house will make the remaining weeks prior to round one quite busy.

“But we are prepared for the challenge and can’t wait for the first shakedown later this month.”

The V8 SuperUtes season will open at Tailem Bend on May 8-9.
