VIDEO: Rogers explains Stanaway decision

Sunday 27th October, 2019 - 1:44pm

Garry Rogers has issued a statement explaining why he elected to bench Richie Stanaway from the final day of action at the Vodafone Gold Coast 600.

The legendary Garry Rogers Motorsport team owner has confirmed the team took the tough decision to replace Stanaway after the New Zealander failed to attend an autograph session for fans at the circuit’s merchandise area.

As a result, Dylan O’Keeffe will now stand in for Stanaway in the #33 Holden Commodore which he will share with Chris Pither.

“Regardless of shortcomings in our make-up, discipline and respect are vital parts of your wellbeing in life, in my opinion that is,” said Rogers in a video statement.

“I do my best to blend in with all generations and I think I don’t do a bad job of that.

“Today Richie failed to turn up at a signing session for the teams, at the team merchandise area for all the fans, both young and old, that were waiting to see him.

“For a professional, that’s just not good enough.

“We need to be accountable for our actions. Let me assure you it’s been a tough decision but the fact is good manners and discipline never ever go out of fashion and let’s hope and pray a lot can be learned out of this.” comment policy
