Heimgartner stripped of maiden TCR podium

Andre Heimgartner (right) has lost third to Tony D’Alberto

Andre Heimgartner has been stripped of a maiden TCR Australia podium in Race 3 at Sandown after copping a post-race penalty.

The Kelly Racing driver had crossed the line third earning his and the team’s first podium but has since been hit with a 15 second penalty for passing under yellow flag conditions.

Heimgartner was judged to have overtaken Wall Racing’s Tony D’Alberto at Turn 1 under yellows due to Alexandra Whitley’s stricken Volkswagen Golf.

As a result of the sanction, D’Alberto has been promoted to the final podium spot while Heimgartner has dropped to eighth in the results.

Race 3 was won by Nestor Girolami, while HMO Customer Racing’s Will Brown finished eighth which was enough to secure the inaugural TCR Australia crown with a round to spare.
