Kelly Racing has been fined after Simona De Silvestro’s Altima dropped equipment on the track during Practice 1 at the Watpac Townsville 400.

An object was seen to fly from the #78 Team Harvey Norman entry as the Swiss driver rounded Turn 10, rebounding off the outside wall and coming to rest on the race track.

Despite conjecture that it came from the hub, was a tape measure, or later that it was even a stray camera, Supercars’ official website confirms that the object was in fact a torch.

“Following a DRD investigation and an admission of a breach of Rule D11.7.3 (a Car must be free of equipment before leaving its Pit Bay) by Motorsport Holdings Pty Ltd (Kelly Racing) in relation to Car 78, the Stewards imposed a fine of $2000 on Motorsport Holdings Pty Ltd,” read the stewards summary.

De Silvestro was 17th in that session and 23rd in Practice 2, when all 24 drivers set their respective fastest laps of the day.

There were no other incident determinations or penalties imposed. comment policy
