Speedcafe.com was invited by Michelin and Porsche, to experience this shrine to automotive excellence this week.
The Museum celebrates the marque’s strong racing history and more than 80 examples of the iconic German high-performance car are on display in this amazing building including the first 356 roadster from 1948, the first Porsche built for racing, the 550 and numerous examples of the legendary 911.
This year marks the 50th birthday of that famous Porsche racing car, the 917 and as a fitting birthday party the museum is showing a special exhibition called ’50 Years of the Porsche 917 – Colours of Speed’.
Fourteen exhibits including ten 917 models are currently on show.
The original 917- 001 restored to its original 1969 condition is a highlight of the exhibition.
In a project lasting more than a year, museum mechanics, former technicians and engineers have restored the first 917 to the same condition it was in on March 12, 1969 when it was shown to the world at the Geneva Motor Show.
