Ducati has confirmed that Jorge Lorenzo will miss next weekend’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix through injury.

The three-time MotoGP premier class world champion sustained a fractured left wrist following a heavy crash at Thailand two weeks ago.

Lorenzo withdrew from this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi which cast doubt over his appearance at Phillip Island.

Ducati has now announced that the Spaniard will head home to aid his recovery for the Malaysian Grand Prix, which will take a place a week after Phillip Island.

“In accordance with the Ducati Team, (Lorenzo) will return home today in order to have further checks with doctors and speed up the recovery of his left wrist,” read a post from Ducati’s official Twitter account.

“Jorge will miss the Australian GP next week and will try to be as fit as possible for the Malaysian GP.”

Ducati is yet to announce who will replace Lorenzo at Phillip Island.
