Super2 car trialling prototype transaxle at Sandown

A Super2 competitor will test a new transaxle at Sandown this weekend

A Super2 team is trialling a new transaxle thought to be a prototype that could be seen in Supercars next year at this weekend’s Rabble.Club Sandown 500.

Speedcafe.com has learned that an Xtrac transaxle will be used by a Super2 competitor this weekend to evaluate its performance.

It is understood the Supercars Commission agreed to the trial in the lead up to the event.

As previously reported, Supercars is evaluating options for a new, more robust and cost effective control transaxle for next year with current supplier Albins in the final year of its deal.

British firm Xtrac has supplied transmissions to Formula 1, WRC and touring car series such as the British Touring Car Championship, and is the exclusive supplier to IndyCar.

The company is believed to be in the running to take over as Supercars transaxle supplier next year.
