MG Motorsport has confirmed its support for an MG6 Plus Australian Production Car entry to be engineered and driven by James Brock.

Brock and Elliot Barbour will share the car, which will be prepared by the former’s Brock Race Engineering operation.

The 1.8-litre turbo, five-door MG6 Plus will compete in all five rounds of the series, starting this weekend at Sandown, in Class E.

James Brock

“We are extremely proud to partner with the highly regarded Brock Race Engineering operation to create MG Motorsport Australia, especially with James Brock leading the charge, a man with a peerless motor racing pedigree,” said MG Motor Australia’s Senior Manager for Marketing and Communications, Danny Lenartic.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for MG Motor to showcase the capabilities of the MG6 PLUS, and further sign of our commitment to re-establishing the proud and passionate MG brand with new generations of Australians.”

While Barbour has had limited racing in recent times, the entry represents a complete return to the driver’s seat for Brock, who last competed in the Australian GT Championship in 2012 when he scored two podiums.

“The plan is to try and finish every race across the APC season and prove the reliability of the MG6,” said Brock.

“At the same time, we want to make sure the team and everyone who is involved has fun.

“The APC is a tough series, and so we believe it is a great way to prove the reliability of the MG product.

“This will be the first outing for us as a crew in many years after we took a break from racing in 2012.

“We are looking forward to getting the band back together and hitting the road for fun and adventure – a win or two would be nice too.”

The #24 MG6 Plus is part of a huge field for Round 1 of the Jacuzzi Spas APC, which takes place with Shannons Nationals starting this Friday.
