Five drivers were fined following Friday's opening day of practice for this weekend's Coates Hire Newcastle 500.
Todd Kelly, Michael Caruso, James Moffat, and David Reynolds were all handed $1000 fines after stewards ruled they'd failed to slow for yellow flags.
The brand new Newcastle street circuit caught a number of drivers out.
Turn 1 proved a hot spot as a number opted to run up the escape road after missing their braking marker, Mark Winterbottom and Todd Kelly among them.
Kelly ended the day third fastest, but ran off the road at the first corner shortly after Winterbottom had also gone in too deep.
It was Kelly who caught the eye of the stewards however, as the sector was under yellow flags for Winterbottom at the time.
Stewards reached the same conclusion in separate incidents involving Caruso, Moffat, and Reynolds later, with all found guilty of failing to slow for a yellow flag.
The four drivers copped a $1000 fine as a result, $500 of which was suspended until the end of 2018.
James Courtney was the only other driver who caught the eye of the stewards, picking up a $350 fine for speeding in pit lane.
