Armstrong during this year’s Toyota Racing Series

Christchurch’s own newly-crowned Italian Formula 4 champion Marcus Armstrong will return to the Castrol Toyota Racing Series this summer.

Armstrong will embark on a second TRS campaign, again with the M2 Competition team, having taken out the Italian F4 Championship with Prema Powerteam.

The 17-year-old, who is the first New Zealander to have been inducted into the Ferrari Driver Academy, also finished runner-up in the ADAC F4 Championship (Germany) with Prema.

“It has been a huge year, I have learned a great deal and I’m looking forward to the coming championship very much,” said Armstrong.

He won three races in this year’s TRS, including the Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy, and finished fourth in the standings, but will be prioritising the title above individual race wins in 2018.

“I’m not going out to just win everything, I want the title and if that means taking podiums and banking points then that is what I will do.”

The 2018 Toyota Racing Series begins on Armstrong’s home turf at Ruapuna Park on January 10-14. comment policy reserves the right to remove comments that are off-topic, abusive and ban users who do not follow the comment policy. Please read our Comment Policy before commenting.
