John Andretti finishes chemotherapy

John Andretti has announced via social media that he has completed his chemotherapy treatment program having been diagnosed with colon cancer.

Andretti was found to have Stage 4A colon cancer in January during a routine colonoscopy.

The former IndyCar, Champ Car, and NASCAR driver, who won the inaugural Gold Coast Indy in 1991, went public with his battle in May in a bid to encourage others to have regular check-ups.

The cancer was eradicated from his spleen and gall bladder in June, and Andretti has since announced on Monday (USA time) that his final round of chemotherapy is over.

“I am officially off the #chemocoaster for now. Hope I never get to ride it again. Please #CheckIt4Andretti,” he wrote on Twitter.

In Australia, bowel cancer screening is recommended for all adults aged 50 to 74, according to the Cancer Council.

Colon cancer and rectal cancer are both forms of bowel cancer.
