Rossi discharged from hospital after surgery

Valentino Rossi has been discharged from hospital to continue rehabilitation on his broken right leg at home.

Rossi fractured his tibia and fibula in a motocross training crash on Thursday evening (local time) and underwent surgery in the very early hours of the next morning.

The 38-year-old, who had a pin inserted in his leg, was released later in the morning.

“I spent a good night, I slept, and this morning I felt good. The doctors visited me and they gave me the okay to go home, where I’ll be able to rest even better,” said Rossi.

“I will begin the rehabilitation as soon as possible and we’ll see how my body reacts before making any decisions.

“I will do everything I can to get back as soon as possible.”

Dr Raffaele Pascarella, who operated on the Movistar Yamaha rider, said Rossi will require a rest period of “30 to 40 days”, which includes Misano next week and Aragon.

The San Marino Grand Prix takes place in Misano next weekend (September 8-10).
