Luthi joins Marc VDS for 2018 MotoGP season

Thomas Luthi

Thomas Luthi will step up to the premier class of grand prix motorcycle racing next season with satellite Honda operation Marc VDS Racing.

Luthi will join fellow to-be MotoGP rookie Franco Morbidelli at the current home of Australian Jack Miller.

The 30-year-old Luthi finished runner-up in Moto2 last year and currently occupies the same position this year, having won the 125cc title in 2005.

He will become the first Swiss premier class rider since Eskil Suter in 1998.

The news leaves the Avintia Ducati team as the only squad left with an unconfirmed 2018 rider line-up, after news earlier in the week that Czech Karel Abraham would remain at Aspar Ducati next year.
