James Davison will join renowned NASCAR operation Joe Gibbs Racing for two NASCAR Xfinity Series road course events this month.
The Melbourne driver is set to pilot the team’s #20 Toyota Camry in this weekend’s round at Mid-Ohio before heading to Road America for the Johnsonville 180 on August 27.
Davison made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut last year when he drove the #90 King Autosport entry at Road America, which resulted in a 19th place finish.
The 30-year-old recently competed in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship for TRG at Lime Rock Park last month.
The call up arrived after he replaced the injured Sebastien Bourdais at the Indianapolis 500 for Dale Coyne Racing.
“I’m excited to wheel the No. 20 for Joe Gibbs Racing at Mid-Ohio and Road America,” said Davison.
“The team’s level of professionalism has been fantastic to be a part of and I look forward to getting down to business.”
“James has an impressive road course resume,” added Steve deSouza, Executive Vice President of XFINITY and Development for Joe Gibbs Racing.
“We look forward to having him in the No. 20 Camry for Mid-Ohio and Road America and adding to his already impressive stats at both road courses.”
The #20 Camry has been driven to victory by Denny Hamlin, Erik Jones and Ryan Preece so far this season.
