Scott Taylor will reunite with Richards Team Motorsport when he steps back into the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship in the 2017/18 season.

Taylor raced a Toyota Camry with the team in 2015/16, which he bought at the end of the campaign, but sat out last season.

Richards Team Motorsport will again field the same Camry for the Australian GT regular’s return to the championship.

“I thought it was time to pull the Camry out of the rack and give it a run; race cars should be raced,” said Taylor of the car, which has been domiciled in his stunning Gold Coast workshop.

“I love my Merc (Mercedes-AMG GT3) but get a buzz out of driving any of my cars.

“I guess I just need to remember what side to hop in and that gears are not on the steering wheel in the Camry; I am sure I will work it out.

“Richards Team Motorsport who will run the vehicle for me are a great bunch of dedicated blokes who I thoroughly enjoy spending time with.

“I enjoy racing in New Zealand, great people, great tracks.”

Taylor has not committed to a full season at this stage, due to other racing commitments including Scott Taylor Motorsport’s likely Bathurst 12 Hour campaign.

The 54-year-old’s return means a possible three-car effort for Richards Team Motorsport.

The team is already committed to running another Australian in Jason Bargwanna, and it is hoped that Sam Barry will recover from brain surgery in time for the start of the season.

Barry went under the knife in June in order to correct a Chiari malformation, a condition where the brain sits too low and impedes the spinal canal, placing pressure on the brain and spine.

The 2017/18 NZ Touring Car Championship starts on November 3-5 at Pukekohe Park Raceway.
