Porsche has taken the covers off its new Safety Car for the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
The all-wheel drive 911 Carrera 4S Coupe will perform Safety Car duties for the remainder of the season, starting at this weekend’s Watpac Townsville 400.
It replaces the Cayenne S SUV which has been the championship’s designated Safety Car.
The latest 911 Carrera 4S uses an innovative bi-turbocharged three litre, six-cylinder engine which produces 309 kW (420 hp).
“It’s great to showcase our most iconic sports car – the 911 – at the head of the Supercars field,” said Paul Ellis, Porsche Cars Australia’s Director of Public Relations and Motorsport.
“The newest generation 911 Carrera 4S is a brilliant example of Porsche engineering and will be more than up to the task of performing its role as the Supercars Safety Car for the remainder of this season.”
