Massive crash ends Touring Car Masters race

Touring Car Masters crash in Race 2 at Winton

A multi-car crash has seen the second Touring Car Masters race of the weekend abandoned at the Winton Super Sprint.

The crash occurred soon after the start, Jason Gomersall losing the back end of his Torana on the exit of Turn 2, triggering mayhem further back.

As Gomersall slid across the road a number of cars found the road in front of them blocked, while others, like John Bowe, were caught out as the field took avoiding action.

Having slid into the path of Eddie Abelnica, the spinning Gomersall was then collected by Mark King leaving both cars with heavy front-end damage.

At least seven cars caught up in the crash and debris strewn across the circuit, officials immediately red flagged the race, which was not restarted.

Bernie Stack was taken to the circuit’s medical centre for precautionary checks.

The third and final TCM race of the weekend is scheduled for 1210 this afternoon, leaving little time for teams to repair their damaged cars.
