Wall/Bowe fastest in Bathurst warm-up

The Wall/Bowe Lancer

David Wall and John Bowe have ended morning warm-up fastest ahead of today’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour at Mount Panorama.

The final 20-minute hit out saw the Wall/Bowe Mitsubishi EVO IX top the time sheets with a 2:26.945s from Leigh Burges and Jack Perkins, who are sharing last year’s race winning BMW 335i, on a 2:28.601s.

After a tough qualifying session which saw Chaz Mostert set a time without any boost in the turbo charged Ford Focus RS, the former Bathurst 1000 winner set the third best time with co-driver Nathan Morcom at 2:28.662s.

The Reindler/Richmond Lancer which fell foul of scrutineering

Having set the third fastest time in qualifying, the Karl Reindler and Andrew Richmond Mitsubishi EVO X ended warm-up sixth fastest.

However, they will start today’s race from the rear of the grid after failing post-qualifying scrutineering.

The car was found below the minimum ride height, caused by a decision to run 265/35 tyres instead of the 245/40 tyres the car ran in 2016.

Three other cars also failing post-qualifying scrutineering, including the the Declan Kirkham/Phillip Kirkham/Aaron Cameron Mazda MX6, the Daniel Williams/Kirt Metcalf/Daniel Sugden Toyota Camry and Mark Griffith/Jacob Andrews Mitsubishi EVO IX.

Favourites for the race remain the Sherrin brothers, who yesterday set the fastest ever lap for a production car around Mount Panorama, ending warm-up seventh fastest at 2:32.079s in their BMW M4, while Garth Walden and Craig Baird ended the session fourth quickest in the Mercedes AMG A45.

Race start is 1130 AEST.
