Walsh tops Aussie Racing Cars practice in Tassie
Ben Walsh has set the pace in both practice sessions for Round 2 of the Aussie Racing Cars Championship at Symmons Plains.
Walsh lapped the 2.41km circuit in a time of 1:01.59s in the cool of the morning, before clocking a best of 1:01.72s in the afternoon’s 20-minute session.
Craig Woods proved to be the defending Masters Cup champion’s nearest rival, second placed and the only other driver to lap in the 1:01s bracket in both sessions.
Jaie Robson made it three Western Sydney Motorsport-prepared cars in the top three on combined times, ahead of Kel Treseder and James Duckworth.
Joel Heinrich was a commendable seventh on his Aussie Racing Cars debut, while 2014 champion Darren Chamberlin finished the day 13th in a one-off return.
Both sessions ran uninterrupted, despite Ian Chivas spinning and become stranded due to a starter motor failure in Practice 1, and Emma Clark beaching herself in the Turn 2 gravel trap in Practice 2.
Charlotte Poynting meanwhile snapped a camshaft late in the opening session.
Aussie Racing Cars return to the track for qualifying tomorrow at 1055 AEST, before the first two of four races at 1230 and 1455 respectively.
Adam Garwood topped both Sports GT’s practice sessions, with Ray Hislop and Layton Barker second and third on combined times.
Qualifying and Race 1 will be held tomorrow at 1025 and 1425 respectively.
