Craig Dontas has confirmed plans to race in the 2017 Stadium Super Trucks Series after acquiring backing from Shannons Insurance.
Dontas was instrumental in bringing the category to Australia a couple of seasons ago and will start his campaign at the Clipsal 500 from March 2-5.
A regular in the V8 Utes category, Dontas says the prospect that high flying Super Trucks brings has given him fresh enthusiasm.
Dontas tried his hand at the Super Trucks on the undercard at the Castrol Gold Coast 600 last year.
“I loved my time in the Utes, but they say a change is better than a holiday and I wanted to bring some fun back into my racing,” Dontas said.
“I’ve watched Stadium Super Trucks in awe for the last two years so to jump in and have a go, I’m excited and nervous all at once.”
The Stadium Super Truck Races feature ramps in strategic locations which allow the trucks to fly through the air.
“It’s very different driving a Ute to driving a Super Truck. I’ve never done any Motocross with jumps so the Gold Coast was a big eye opener. But it was all I needed to say, ‘yeah I’m going to do it’.”
Shannons marketing manager Mark Behr said the involvement adds to the company’s large commitment in domestic motor racing.
“Shannons are very proud to be associated with Craig and his team. SUPER Trucks are one of the most exciting race categories in the country and our support reflects our deep involvement across all motorsport categories throughout Australia,” Behr said.
