Bernd Schneider confirmed for HTP Mercedes squad

Decorated Mercedes racer Bernd Schneider has been added to the HTP Motorsport line-up for the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour this weekend.

A late inclusion, Schneider will join previously announced Pedro Lamy, Mathias Lauda and Paul Dalla Lana in the AMG GT.

Schneider, a five-times DTM champion and part of the Bathurst 12 Hour Erebus-winning crew in 2013, adds a wealth of experience to the already imposing #83 Pro-Am Class A entry.

The HTP squad will also be charged with running a similar Scott Taylor Motorsport Mercedes which will field reigning champion Shane van Gisbergen, Maro Engel and Craig Baird.

“We’re confident in both the teams and drivers who are piloting the Mercedes-AMG GT3 race cars,” Jochen Bitzer, head of Mercedes-AMG Customer Sports, said.

“This is the first time our AMG GT3 will compete around Mount Panorama so of course this is a very important race to our brand.”

Mercedes will not only have star-studded factory line-ups for the race but will supply the Safety and Course cars for a third successive year.

Its thumping twin turbo V8 C63 Safety Car will be ready to pace the field while a pair of AMG C43 will be designated Course cars for the weekend.

Schneider has also been assigned to drive the AMG GT R in demonstration laps for the machine’s Australian debut.
