BMW Motorsport has issued a significant upgrade for its M6 GT3 ahead of next week's Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.
The German marque has delivered new parts to BMW Team SRM and the MARC GT squad which Speedcafe.com understands will improve performance, reliability and safety at the February 3-5 Mount Panorama endurance classic.
The upgrade arrives following a private test the manufacturer conducted with a team of engineers at the 6.2km circuit in November that saw three of its four Bathurst 12 Hour entries take to the circuit.
Next week will see BMW's M6 GT3 tackle the Bathurst 12 Hour for the first time with the factory supported Team SRM fielding two cars.
Steven Richards, Mark Winterbottom, Marco Wittmann will pilot the #25 while Mark Skaife, Russell Ingall, Tony Longhurst and Timo Glock will drive the #7 entry.
Privateer squad MARC GT will field a third car for Chaz Mostert, Morgan Haber and Max Twigg.
A fourth entry will compete in the event under the Walkenhorst banner.
It will be BMW's first factory Bathurst 12 Hour assault since the event adopted GT3 regulations and is eager to make a big impression in a field loaded with quality.
MARC Cars Australia boss Ryan McLeod says his team are working flat out to fit the parts before loading the M6 to Bathurst, but is optimistic the job will be completed in time.
“I think we will be okay fitting all the parts in time. We are fitting these parts for a good reason,” McLeod told Speedcafe.com.
“We came away from the Bathurst test feeling good as our car was the fastest one there.
“I think we will be able to box on as a good as anyone in the race.”
The upgrade has been signed off by the FIA and will not change the M6 GT3s Balance of Performance figures.
The car has however proven itself on the world stage by scoring victory in the prestigious Spa 24 Hours last year alongside race wins in the American WeatherTech United SportsCar Championship.
However, BMW has struggled for results since the M6 GT3 arrived in Australia last year.
