Australian Formula 3 driver Roland Legge has announced plans to switch from single seaters to the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge this season.
The 19-year-old from Mackay, North Queensland has secured a deal to join South Australian operation Buik Motorworks for what will be his first season competing in sportscars.
Legge has spent the last three seasons racing in Australian Formula 3, finishing third overall in the series in 2016.
The teenager also claimed the Kumho Cup for R-Tek Motorsport Services during the 2014 campaign.
Legge believes the second tier Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge series will allow him to enhance his burgeoning career.
“Whilst Formula 3 gave me the foundation and a great experience racing open wheelers, after three seasons it was time for me to take the leap,” said Legge.
“Driving behind the wheel of a Porsche with the support of Buik Motorsport was the next logical step and one of my aspirations.”
Legge will make his GT3 Cup Challenge debut at the Sandown Raceway season opener from April 7-9.
