Construction of the new SuperUtes prototype is well underway ahead of its first public showing at the Clipsal 500 in March.

PACE Innovations in Queensland is currently in the process of building two prototypes of the production based turbo-diesel dual cab vehicles which will replace the V8 powered Ford and Holden Utes this year.

As previously reported three prototypes are expected to run demonstration laps at Supercars’ Adelaide season opener (March 2-5), with the build of the first Ute expected to be completed by the end of January.

Alongside the construction, Paul Ceprnich’s operations is overseeing the homologation of the rollcage, gearbox, differential and running gear which will form a control kit available for competitors to purchase.

Speedcafe.com has been informed that a new SuperUte will range from $80,000-$100,000, which includes the $60,000 kit constructed by Supercars.

Interest in the category is growing with V8 Utes stalwarts Sieders Racing announcing plans last month to run three Mitsubishi Tritons this year.

SuperUtes has been earmarked as a key Supercars support category with the series set to begin at the Townsville 400 from July 7-9.
