Bruce Wilson, the celebrated mechanic and friend of New Zealand’s former F1 driver and Le Mans 24 Hour winner Chris Amon, has died just before a book documenting his feats is released.

Wilson served as a mechanic for Amon, who died in August, for more than 40 years.

His book, The Master Mechanic, that features some of the heady days of when Amon was a factory Ferrari F1 driver, is about to go on sale.

Wilson was 85.

It was recently revealed that previously unpublished photographs of Amon are to feature in the book which will be released next week.
