Van Gisbergen confirmed for Sepang 12H start
Shane van Gisbergen will fight for the Intercontinental GT Challenge title at the Sepang 12 Hour next month, McLaren has confirmed.
Van Gisbergen has been cleared to race in the December 8-11 event aboard a McLaren 650S run by American squad K-Pax Racing.
The Kiwi’s appearance at Sepang will come just days after the Coates Hire Sydney 500, where he hopes to wrap up a maiden Supercars Championship title.
Van Gisbergen will be joined by K-Pax regular Alvaro Parente, reuniting their Bathurst 12 Hour winning partnership, as well as Blancpain co-driver Come Ledogar.
Currently second in the Intercontinental drivers’ standings on 27 points after earlier rounds at Bathurst and Spa, Van Gisbergen is just six points adrift of Audi factory driver Laurens Vanthoor.

“I am really looking forward to the Sepang 12 Hours,” said Van Gisbergen.
“It’s been an awesome year for McLaren in GT racing with race and championship wins across the world, and to be a Kiwi and a part of it is very special.
“The intercontinental GT Challenge trophy is up for grabs, hopefully we can have a good result and finish this year on a high.”
The race is expected to be Van Gisbergen’s last start as a factory McLaren driver after calendar clashes with Supercars ruled him out of a Blancpain Endurance Series title defence.
As revealed by Speedcafe.com on Wednesday, Van Gisbergen is set to join Scott Taylor Motorsport’s Mercedes entry for next year’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.
