The Scott Taylor Motorsport Mercedes returns to Australian GT this weekend

The return of Scott Taylor Motorsport’s Mercedes is one of a number of late changes to the field for this weekend’s Australian GT Highlands Park finale.

The Erebus Motorsport prepared entry sat out last month’s Hampton Downs 101 after owner Scott Taylor was ruled out of the event due to a leg injury sustained in a crash at the Castrol Gold Coast 600.

While Taylor continues his recovery, the car will return to competition in the weekend’s two Australian GT Championship races and the Australian Endurance Championship final round.

Regular co-driver Crag Baird will be joined by Carrera Cup Australia racer Michael Almond, who will fill in for Taylor this weekend.

Meanwhile, Erebus Supercars driver Shae Davies will join Mark Griffith in the squad’s sister entry.

The Gold Coast-based driver has plenty of GT experience having piloted an Erebus Mercedes at selected events including Highlands Park last year.

Davies will take over from Jack Perkins who shared the SLS GT3 entry alongside Griffith at Hampton Downs.

Rising Australian GT star Liam Talbot has been drafted in to partner John Martin in the Walkinshaw Racing Porsche for the two Australian GT Championship sprint races.

Talbot will pilot the Skwirk Audi R8 alongside Jake Fouracre for the Highlands 101 Australian Endurance Championship finale.

The other change to the line up sees Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge driver Jaxon Evans replace Carrera Cup champion Matt Campbell in the #73 Lamborghini REX alongside Michael Hovey.

Meanwhile, the Trass Family Motorsport Ferrari 458 GT3 of Danny Stutterd and Sam Fillmore returns after being withdrawn from the Hampton Downs 101 with suspension failure.

A 31 car grid will take part in the two Australian GT sprint series, while 29 entries are confirmed for the Australian Endurance Championship Highlands 101.
