Matt Campbell seals Carrera Cup title

Matt Campbell has stormed to the Carrera Cup Australia title with victory in the opening race on the streets of the Gold Coast.

Campbell converted his record sixth pole with a strong start before pulling away for his 12th race win of the season.

The result sealed the title with two races left in this weekend’s final round,

His only title contender, Alex Davison, finished third in the race behind team-mate Michael Almond.

For Campbell the title is also the first Drivers’ Championship in the Carrera Cup for McElrea Racing, who gave the now 21-year-old his break three years ago.

The Tag Heuer Carrera Challenge is still up for grabs with points leader Tony Bates settling for third place behind race winner Stephen Grove and James Bergmuller.

The second race of the final round of the Carrera Cup Australia will be run at 1250 local time.
