De Silvestro close on 2017 Supercars team deal
Simona de Silvestro says she is close to confirming her Supercars home for 2017 as preparations continue for Bathurst.
De Silvestro returned to Australia last weekend ahead of her second consecutive appearance as a wildcard in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
In an unprecedented arrangement, the 28-year-old Swiss has signed a three-year deal with Supercars to drive full-time in the category from next season.
Eager to add a female to its championship, Supercars has secured backing from retail giant Harvey Norman and the South Australian Government for the Swiss to bring to a team of her choosing.

Expectations that De Silvestro will slot in as the fourth entry at Nissan were heightened by the recent switch of the Bathurst wildcard program from Prodrive to the Kelly family run team.
Nissan confirmed its own new two-year deal with the Kellys earlier this month to see the team continue as its factory squad.
“We’re still working on it, no decision has been made right now,” De Silvestro told Speedcafe.com of her contract talks.
“It’s nice to have options and in the end I will make the decision on where I feel the most comfortable and where I can develop the most.
“That’s what’s going to be most important.
“We want to get it done pretty quickly so we can start working, so I don’t think we’re going to be waiting too long.”
The Bathurst wildcard gives De Silvestro a chance to get to know the Nissan squad before making her final decision.
“I’m pretty comfortable here,” she said when asked if it would be ideal to continue with Nissan.
“The team is good and I really get along with everybody.
“Nothing is set yet or anything, but it is a team that I’ve enjoyed working with the last few days.”
