Solomon receives late Australian GT call up
Matt Solomon will return to Australian GT after receiving a late call up to join Erebus Motorsport at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.
The Hong Kong-based racer is set to partner Mark Griffith behind the wheel of a Mercedes SLS GT3 for the second round of the Australian Endurance Championship.
Solomon, who is supported by the AMG Customer Sports program, contested the opening two rounds of the Australian GT Championship for Eggleston Motorsport in a Mercedes AMG GT3.
The 20-year-old claimed a podium finish at the Clipsal 500 round before recording a maiden race win at the Australian Grand Prix meeting.
Solomon has switched his focus to GT racing this season competing in selected GT Asia and Asian Le Mans Series Sprint Cup rounds.
The Australian-born driver is a familiar face to Erebus Motorsport having previously helped the squad to victory alongside double Formula 1 world champion Mika Hakkinen at China’s Zhuhai circuit in 2013.
“At the moment it is a one-off drive,” Solomon told Speedcafe.com.
“I met Mark (Griffith) earlier in the year and we discussed doing something together at one stage and everything has just worked out for this weekend.
“I’m really excited to get out on track. I have been at the circuit a couple of times before so I’m looking forward to turning a wheel in anger.”
A 25 car Australian Endurance Championship grid will contest a 20 minute practice followed by two 20 minute qualifying sessions on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s 101 lap race.
