Australian Carrera Cup racer Ash Walsh will make his GT Asia debut this weekend after a last minute call-up from Miedecke Stone Motorsport.

Walsh has been drafted into the co-driver’s seat of the team’s Aston Martin alongside George Miedecke for the two races at Fuji Speedway in Japan.

The 28-year-old’s drive comes with the support of long-time backer Infants Friend and follows a stint alongside Miedecke in Matt Stone’s Dunlop Series team in 2013.

Walsh, who will team up with Tim Slade in this year’s Supercars Pirtek Enduro Cup, has not previously driven FIA GT3 machinery.

“It’s a great opportunity to get the old band back together with George, myself and Matt,” Walsh told Speedcafe.com.

“It’s hard to go into the weekend with any expectations without having driven the car or been to the track before.

“But I’ve been driving the Porsche this year so it’s not a huge leap to move into a GT3, it’ll just be a bit more power and a bit more downforce.

“I’m just looking forward to sampling it. Everyone raves about how nice they are to drive.

“I’ve not even seen what the track looks like yet, but I’ll be going through some onboards before I get there.”

Walsh replaces Nathan Morcom in the MSM entry after the Sydneysider’s one-off appearance with the squad on its GT Asia debut at Okayama.
