Injured Newgarden on Road America entry list

Josef Newgarden is making an effort to race this weekend at Road America two weeks after fracturing his shoulder and hand
IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden is making a valiant attempt at a comeback this weekend after suffering shoulder and hand fractures in a frightening crash at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Newgarden ploughed into the barriers cockpit-first after being collected by Conor Daly on Lap 42 of the Texas event on June 12.
The 25-year-old was hospitalised with fractures to his right shoulder and right hand.
Newgarden is among the 22 entries for IndyCar’s return to the Road America circuit at Elkhart Lake.
JR Hildebrand had been named as the replacement for Newgarden and will remain on standby in case the latter is not cleared to race.

Newgarden occupies fourth position in the points standings on 259 behind leader Simon Pagenaud (Team Penske) on 357.
Ed Carpenter Racing confirmed via Twitter that Hildebrand will be ready to deputise if Newgarden is unable to take his place in the #21 Chevrolet.
“We will have @JRHildebrand ready at @roadamerica as well if @josefnewgarden does not drive the @_DirectSupply car,” the team tweeted.
“Still a few days left to make those decisions – @josefnewgarden is working hard to be ready to go!”
The Texas race was ultimately red flagged after 71 of the scheduled 248 laps when storms lashed the area.
As previously announced the race will be completed on August 27.
