GALLERY: Historic Indy 500 machines

Driven by a host of equally legendary drivers including Bobby Unser, Bobby Rahal, Arie Luyendyk, Geoff Brabham and Emerson Fittipaldi and proud owners, more than 100 examples were paraded in front of the 300,000-plus crowd.

The beautifully restored and maintained racers proved a smash hit as they were driven around the iconic 4km oval in the lead-up to the Indy 500 that was won by rookie Alex Rossi.

The machines were a graphic display of the evolution of the cars that have raced at The Brickyard since the maiden running of the Indy 500 in 1911.
