Aspiring single seater racer Jake Parsons recorded his maiden podium finish in the Pro Mazda Series at the Indianapolis road course.

The Sydney driver produced a measured drive to third in the weekend’s opening race in the Road to Indy category.

Pro Mazda rookie Parsons made the most of a strong start from fourth on the grid to claim third with a pass on Aaron Telitz on the opening lap.

The 21-year-old held station for the remainder of the race to finish behind winner Patricio O’Ward, who took the chequered flag from Will Owen.

“I’m really happy with that, consistency really paid off in that race,” said Parsons.

“It was pretty cool standing on the podium looking at the IMS stands and circuit. The champagne definitely tasted sweet up there.

“There are things we can we can do better and improve on, so hopefully we can take another step forward in race two.”

Parsons will start Saturday’s final heat from fifth on the grid.
