Carl Edwards has scored his first pole of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season with the fastest time at Texas Motor Speedway.
The Toyota driver is the sixth different pole winner in seven races this season.
Edwards has won at Texas Motor Speedway three times, but his last to Victory Lane in the Sprint Cup Series was back in 2008.
“I like it here, I really enjoy Texas,” Edwards said.

“This is a fun place to race. The tyre, I don’t know what the other guys feel, the tyre and downforce package for me lets me feel like I can go into the corner and move around and feel the tyre underneath me. Even in qualifying, there were times when I got a little sideways and it slid a little bit and I could recover and that’s really fun as a race car driver.
Joining Edwards on the front row will be Joey Logano, who incredibly had exactly the same time as Martin Truex Jr. His faster time in the second segment of qualifying being the tiebreaker to give him the front row spot.
Last year’s winner of the Duck Commander 500, Jimmie Johnson, qualified 11th. While last week’s winner at Martinsville Kyle Busch will go from 15th.
