Haas has unveiled the car which will compete in its maiden season in Formula 1.

The North American operation is the latest team to join the F1 paddock with their new VF-16 the result of two years of preparations for its grand prix racing debut.

Powered by Ferrari’s 2016 V6 power unit, the VF-16 features a silver, black and red livery devoid of any sponsors and a short sloped nose seen on the majority of its rivals.

The VF-16’s development has been aided by a technical alliance with Ferrari which has seen the team make use of the Maranello squad’s wind tunnel.

Frenchman Romain Grosjean and former Sauber driver Esteban Gutierrez will drive the car after moving from Lotus and Ferrari in the off-season.

Haas F1 team boss Guenther Steiner maintains that the team’s goal in its first year is to score points.

“Our goal with this car is to score points,” Steiner said.

“First, we need to go out there and show that we can do the job, that we can finish races, that we are respected by the fans and other teams in the paddock.

“Then, we want to score points. That is the ultimate goal.”

The car completed an installation lap at the Barcelona circuit on Sunday before its full debut in today’s test with Grosjean at the wheel.
