Iconic American outfit Team Penske will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a series of celebrations this year.
Formed by Roger Penske in 1966, the Mooresville operation has grown to become one of motor racing’s most famous names.
During the last 50 years the team has won 424 races including 16 Indianapolis 500 triumphs and two Daytona 500 victories.
Alongside its 28 national championship titles, the squad is the last American constructor to win a Formula 1 race courtesy of John Watson’s win at the 1976 Austrian Grand Prix.
A series of special events are planned to mark the anniversary beginning with special exhibits displaying the team’s iconic cars at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The team will also launch the Penske Hall of Fame which will honour current and former drivers and employees who have made significant contributions to the team and its history.
A series of interviews with former drivers, employees, sponsors and other influential individuals will also be produced.
“We are very proud of all Team Penske has accomplished over the last 50 years. The celebration of our 50th anniversary is truly a credit to the hard work, preparation and execution of our teams over the years,” said Roger Penske.
“The 2016 season will be a special one in our history as we have the opportunity to reflect back on our heritage while continuing to produce and win at a high level each week on the race track.”
