Nick Percat says he will wait until the last possible moment before making a call on whether he is fit to race this weekend at Phillip Island.
The 27-year-old is set to remain at home in Melbourne today having been consigned to bed rest after being discharged from hospital on Tuesday.
Percat spent a week receiving treatment for an infection stemming from a burn sustained on his right foot at the Castrol Gold Coast 600.
As reported on Wednesday, LDM has placed its Pirtek Enduro Cup co-driver Karl Reindler on standby in case Percat is unfit to drive.
“I’m hoping to be at Phillip Island,” said Percat in a statement issued this morning.
“I’m planning to go down Friday morning just before practice and suit up and hopefully the foot is alright.
“I’m out of hospital now but not doing much. I go from the couch to bed but am trying to prepare for Phillip Island the best I can by watching replays and old footage.
“I’m getting ready for it, but I am not 100 percent sure if I’ll be driving yet.”
Percat’s absence from the track today ensures he will miss all the usual pre-event preparations with his team.
“I obviously haven’t been to the workshop since the New Zealand round but I have full faith in the team and that they have everything under control,” he added.
“While I was in hospital, I had a lot of visitors from the team and they kept me updated with where everything was at.
“I’m really hoping I’ll be able to slip the helmet on and pay back the team for all their hard work this year.
“It’s getting to the end of the season now and everyone is getting pretty tired and fatigued and I would really like to give them a result.”
Percat currently sits 20th in the V8 Supercars Championship standings with season best race finishes of sixth at Hidden Valley and Surfers Paradise.
